Deborah Samson Gannett (17 décembre 1760 – 27 avril 1827), plus connue sous le nom de Deborah Sampson, était une femme d'origine modeste qui se travestit en homme afin de s'enrôler dans l'Armée continentale pendant la guerre d'indépendance américaine. Elle servit pendant 17 mois sous le nom de Robert Shurtliff et fut libérée de son service à West Point, sans que son déguisement n'ait été percé à jour par ses compagnons d'armes et sa hiérarchie. Un médecin qui la soigna pour une fièvre maligne découvrit son identité véritable mais ne la divulgua à son supérieur hiérarchique qu'au terme de son service dans l'armée.
