Le rav Chalom Messas (13 février 1909 - 12 avril 2003) fut le grand rabbin de Casablanca, puis le grand rabbin du Maroc, et enfin le grand rabbin de Jérusalem durant 25 ans. Il est considéré comme l'un des plus prestigieux et important rabbin et décisionnaire que le judaïsme marocain a engendré.
Biographie
Chalom Messas est né le 13 février 1909, à son père le rav Maïmon Messas, dans la ville de Meknès, qui était à l'époque un des centres de Tora marocains. Il sera nommé au nom de son grand-père paternel. De ce côté, il descend aussi du fameux grand rav Réfaël Berdougo, surnommé chez les marocains "l'ange Réfaël".

Il est l’auteur plusieurs recueils majeurs de décisions halakhiques :
- Mizrah chémèch (Le Lever du soleil)
- Kérèn chémèch (Un rayon de soleil)
- Tévou’ot chémèch (Les produits mûris par le soleil), 4 vol
- Chémèch oumagen (Le soleil et le bouclier), 3 vol, ainsi qu’un livre des prières quotidienne, le Vézéra'h hachéméche
