L’ahupua'a est la subdivision traditionnelle de troisième niveau dans l'archipel d'Hawaï, après le mokupuni qui représente une île entière et le moku qui est l'équivalent d'un district. Il rassemble en général deux ou trois `ili.
Les terres sont partagées en groupement de parcelles afin de satisfaire les besoins immédiats de la population et un développement durable de l'environnement. Ces ahupua'a ont généralement la forme de longues bandes de terre orientées des cimes vers la côte.
