The Toxic Avenger est un film américain d'horreur parodique réalisé en 1985 par Lloyd Kaufman et Michael Herz. Premier vrai succès, à son échelle, de la Troma Entertainment, The Toxic Avenger narre les péripéties d'un technicien de surface dans le club de musculation de Tromaville. Victime d'une mauvaise plaisanterie, le malheureux Melvin est aspergé de déchets toxiques et se transforme en un monstre à la force surhumaine nommé le Toxic Avenger. Il va désormais faire la justice à Tromaville en massacrant les malfaiteurs à mains nues à grands renforts d'effets gore.

Ce film parodiant les histoires de super-héros a connu trois suites.

Le personnage présente certaines similarités, peut-être fortuites, avec le personnage de bande dessinée italienne Wallestein.
