Genzô Wakabayashi

Genzô Wakabayashi (若林源三) est un personnage du manga Captain Tsubasa (キャプテン翼), rebaptisé Thomas Price dans la version française du dessin animé.

En primaire, le gardien de but Wakabayashi est le capitaine emblématique de l'équipe benjamine de la Shûtetsu (修哲小) qui a déjà remporté un titre national. Au début de la série, sûr de son talent, il s'oppose d'abord à Tsubasa Ohzora (大空翼), avant de faire équipe avec lui dans l'équipe de la Nankatsu (南葛SC) dans l'optique du championnat des benjamins. Blessé pendant la plus grande partie du tournoi, il revient néanmoins pour la finale, durant laquelle il contre les tirs puissants de Kojirô Hyûga (日向小次郎).

Suite à une proposition faite par son entraîneur privé, il s'expatrie ensuite en Allemagne, où il intègre l'équipe junior du Hambourg SV. Lors du tournoi international des cadets en France, il rentre en conflit avec le reste de l'équipe du Japon, mais est quand même sélectionné pour la finale. Le Japon remporte ce tournoi.

Il fait son premier match en Bundesliga sous le maillot de Hambourg à l'âge de 15 ans, et devient rapidement titulaire. Dans Captain Tsubasa - World Youth, il est à nouveau blessé, mais joue quand même plusieurs matchs lors des qualifications et lors du tournoi international junior, remporté une fois encore par l'équipe du Japon.

Dans Captain Tsubasa: Road to 2002, il reste le gardien redouté de l'équipe de Hambourg et rêve lui aussi de remporter la Coupe du monde de football sous le maillot japonais.

On le revoit dans Golden-23 où il affronte le Nigeria et plus particulierement le Nigérian Ochado. Il se blessera lors du match contre l'Australie et le Japon s'inclinera 3-1

Il est le meilleur gardien du monde dans Olive et Tom où il est surnommé le « super grand gardien » (SGGK, ポジションはGK), gardien qui ne prend aucun but en dehors de la surface de réparation ; ceux qui ont réussi se comptent sur une main (le Chinois Sho Shunko, l'Allemand Karl-Heinz Schneider et le Brésilien Natureza ).
