The Machine Stops est une nouvelle d'anticipation rédigée en 1909 par l'écrivain britannique Edward Morgan Forster.
Il y décrit un futur technologique dans lequel les être humains vivent sous l'emprise de "La Machine", dans le sous-sol terrestre. Avec beaucoup de clairvoyance, il interroge quelques-uns des thèmes essentiels des Science and Technology Studies contemporaines.
