En géologie, un synclinorium est un grand pli de strates en synclinal, formé par un enchaînement de plis de plus petite taille d'une longueur d'onde de 2 à 10 fois plus courte. Ces petits plis, formés par des cassures dans la roche nommées failles, sont positionnés « en escalier » sur les pentes.
On trouve par exemple ce phénomène tectonique :
- en Belgique avec les synclinoriums de Dinant et de Namur
- en France avec les synclinoriums de Martigné-Ferchaud, de Laval
- au Maroc avec le synclinorium de Fourhal
- au Portugal avec le synclinorium de Moncorvo
