Mansa Souleiman
Mansa Souleiman, frère de Mansa Moussa, monte sur le trône du Mali à la mort de son neveu Maghan en 1341 jusqu'à sa mort en 1360[1]. Il rétablit la paix, reprend contact avec le Maroc et l’Égypte, redonne éclat aux arts et aux lettres. Il rétablit l’autorité du pouvoir central sur toutes les provinces à l’exception du Songhaï. Sous son règne, l’empire atteint ses dimensions extrêmes avec la conquête de la ville de Takedda, à l’est. En 1352, il reçoit la visite du voyageur marocain Ibn Battûta qui décrit le Mali comme un empire remarquablement administré. Les routes sont sures, le pays prospère et l’or semble couler à flot[2].
