Les starting-blocks (ou blocs de départ) sont des engins réglables constitués de deux cales pour les pieds. Fixés à la piste, ils permettent aux athlètes de donner une plus grande impulsion au départ d'une course de sprint court.
Le coureur règle son starting-block en fonction de sa taille de façon à poser ses mains derrière la ligne de départ. Pour le 100m, les lignes de départ (et non les starting-blocks) sont sur une même ligne alors que pour le 200m et le 400m, elles sont décalées pour compenser la distance plus grande à l'extérieur des virages.
