South African Secret Service

Le South African Secret Service (SASS, Services secrets de l’Afrique du Sud) est une agence de renseignement sud-africaine. Elle est responsable des renseignements non militaires extérieurs du pays. Ses opérations sont effectuées dans le plus grand secret.


Le SASS fut fondé en 1995 en application de la loi sur les services secrets (Intelligence Act of 1994) votée par le parlement issu des premières élections multiraciales sud-africaines du 27 avril 1994 lesquelles avaient été remportées par le Congrès national africain de Nelson Mandela.

Le SASS, en reprenant la gestion de la sécurité extérieure du territoire sud-africain, succédait en partie au National Intelligence Service (NIS) alors que la sécurité intérieure, également gérée par la NIS, était transférée au National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

Le SASS s’occupe actuellement principalement de la surveillance de la mouvance islamiste et des mercenaires sud-africains en Afrique et en Irak.
