Ashis Nandy, né en 1939, est sociologue et critique des sociétés et des civilisations en Inde. Il a étudié la sociologie au Hislop College et a obtenu son diplôme de psychologie à l'université du Gujarat, à Ahmedabad. Ses idées exercent une influence sur l'Asie et le reste du monde.
Il est l'auteur de plusieurs rapports et écrits sur les concepts de civilisation, nation, colonisation, et sur divers problèmes.
