Le nyabinghi ou burrus est un instrument de percussion d'origine africaine employé en Jamaïque dans le rituel rastafari où il accompagne les chants. Il est dans une certaine mesure à l'origine du reggae.[réf. nécessaire]
Facture
Il y a trois percussions nyabinghi faits d'une grosse caisse et d'une peau : la basse, le funde et le repeater (keteh).
Jeu
On le martelle avec ses mains (parfois avec un bâton) au rythme du cœur, en signe de cadence symbolique. Le nyabinghi est utilisé rituellement lors du Shabbat (jour de repos pour les Rastas pratiquants se déroulant du coucher du soleil le vendredi jusqu'au coucher du soleil le samedi soir). Seul un rasta peut le jouer.
