En informatique, le chemin d'accès d'un fichier ou d'un répertoire est une chaîne de caractères décrivant la position de ce fichier ou répertoire dans le système de fichiers.

Variable d'environnement pour l'emplacement des exécutables
Sur Linux (et Unix), sur Windows (et son prédécesseur, le DOS), le PATH est une variable d'environnement qui liste les répertoires dans lesquels peuvent être placés des fichiers exécutables. Si un exécutable n'est pas placé dans l'un de ces répertoires, il sera nécessaire d'indiquer le chemin exact chaque fois qu'on l'appellera.
Sous Windows, cette variable d'environnement est %PATH%. Elle est aussi utilisée pour l'emplacement des bibliothèques logicielles (DLL).
Sous linux et Unix, c'est $PATH. Pour les bibliothèques logicielles, d'autres variables existent (par exemple LD_LIBRARY_PATH).
