Mahmoud Ahmed (en amharique: ማሕሙድ ኣሕመድ), né le 8 mai 1941 à Addis-Abeba, est un chanteur éthiopien.
Biographie
Après avoir été cireur de chaussures, Mahmoud Ahmed devient l'homme à tout faire du club Arizona à Addis-Abeba dans les années 1960 où rapidement il commence à chanter ses premières chansons, mélange de musique éthiopienne sous influence du rock et du jazz occidentaux. Il débute alors une carrière avec l'Imperial Body Guard Band et devient, avec Mulatu Astatke, l'un des chefs de file de l'Éthio-jazz, et de l'Afro jazz notamment grâce au succès de l'album Erè Mèla Mèla (1975) au milieu des années 1970 pendant la période du dictateur Mengistu Haïlé Mariam.
Mahmoud Ahmed a également chanté avec l'Ibex Band, le Venus Band, le Walias Band,le Badume's Band et le Roha Band tout au long de sa carrière. Il est redevenu, après une période d'oubli relatif, un des plus importants chanteurs éthiopiens en Europe et aux États-Unis notamment sous l'impulsion de la collection Éthiopiques du label Buda Musique qui réédita les enregistrements de nombreux musiciens éthiopiens .
