Cage the Elephant est un groupe de rock américain originaire de Bowling Green, au Kentucky qui s'est formé en 2006.

Historique

Les trois membres d'origine (Matt Schultz, Brad Schultz et Jared Champion) possédaient un groupe au lycée qui s'appellait "Perfect Confusion" et qui a enregistré un unique album. "Perfect Confusion" n'a pas changé de nom pour devenir Cage The Elephant, le groupe s'est simplement séparé et deux nouveaux membres les ont rejoints pour créer Cage The Elephant. Leur single "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" a atteint la 32ème place du UK Singles Chart. Le groupe, composé de Matt Shultz, Brad Shultz, Jared Champion, Daniel Tichenor et de Lincoln Parish, a signé un contrat avec EMI Records après sa participation au festival texan South by Southwest. Matt Shultz et sa bande se sont ensuite installés à Londres. Ils ont sorti leur album éponyme, Cage the Elephant, le 23 juin 2008. L'album a obtenu de bonnes critiques de la presse, principalement pour son énergie et sa puissance. Le nombre de fans de Cage the Elephant a fortement augmenté après que le groupe a assuré la première partie de The Pigeon Detectives au début de l'année 2008.

Le single "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" était téléchargeable gratuitement sur iTunes la semaine du 12 avril. Le single "Ain't No Rest For the Wicked" a été également choisi pour être la bande son de la présentation de Borderlands (jeu vidéo).

Le deuxième album Thank you Happy Birthday, sort en 2011. Il est élu 'disque du mois' par Rock & Folk en août 2011.
