Le Open Society Institute est une fondation créée par George Soros, et dont l'objectif est de promouvoir la gouvernance démocratique, les droits de l'homme et des réformes économiques, sociales et légales. A l'échelon local, l'OSI met en œuvre une gamme d'initiatives visant à appuyer la primauté du droit, l'éducation, la santé publique et l'indépendance des médias[1].
Cette fondation travaille de plus à bâtir des alliances à travers les frontières et les continents sur des questions comme la corruption et la lutte contre les atteintes aux droits.
Un des objectifs de l'OSI est le développement d'organisations de la société civile : associations caritatives, les groupes communautaires et syndicats, pour encourager la participation à la démocratie et la société.
