Pesco-végétarien

Pesco-végétarien est un néologisme, provenant de la langue anglaise "pesco-vegetarian", qui désignerait une personne omnivore qui exclut la viande, tout en autorisant le poisson. Celui-ci est un mot composé, dont la première partie ("pesco") désigne le poisson et la seconde ("végétarien"[1] [2]) fait référence à une pratique alimentaire qui exclut toute chair animale, telle qu'elle est définie et admise. Or, le poisson[3] est bien un animal.

Ainsi, d'un point de vue sémantique, l'association des 2 mots ("pesco" avec "végétarien") est tout à fait impropre, puisqu'il s'agit là d'un contre-sens ; le premier terme étant antinomique du second. C'est pourquoi l'emploi de cette expression demeure incorrecte.

Dès lors, cette pratique alimentaire, ne pourrait être qualifiée de la sorte puisqu'elle n'a rien à voir avec une quelconque forme de végétarisme. Cependant, elle reste une forme de régime omnivore[4]. Il faudrait donc dire "pesco-omnivore".
