Pacific Coast Hockey Association

L'Association de hockey de la Côte Pacifique- Pacific Coast Hockey Association (PCHA) était une ligue professionnelle de hockey sur glace dans l'ouest canadien de 1911 à 1924. Elle était alors considérée comme la Ligue nationale de hockey comme une ligue majeur.

Histoire

La PCHA fut fondée par Frank Patrick et Lester Patrick avec trois équipes: les Royals de New Westminster, les Aristocrats de Victoria et les Millionaires de Vancouver. Même si au début de la ligue, le champion de la PCHA ne participait pas aux séries éliminatoires de la Coupe Stanley, en 1913, les Aristocrats ont battu le champion 1913 de la Coupe Stanley: les Bulldogs de Québec dans une série de matchs amicaux. Cet évenement permit à la PCHA de prendre de l'importance et d'être considérée dans le hockey canadien. En 1915, un accord est passé entre la PCHA et l'Association nationale de hockey permettant aux deux ligues de présenter leur équipe championne pour prétendre à la Coupe Stanley. Dès la première édition de cette nouvelle confrontation, les Millionaires vainquirent les Sénateurs d'Ottawa dans une série au meilleur des cinq matchs.

En 1916, la première équipe des États-Unis rejoint la PCHA, les Rosebuds de Portland (nouvelle appellation des Royals) puis c'est le tour des Metropolitans de Seattle l'année suivant (avec la victoire en finale de la Coupe Stanley).

En 1921, la Western Canada Hockey League est créée et le format de la finale de la Coupe Stanley et modifié afin de permettre au champion de celle-ci de participer.

En 1924, les Maroons de Vancouver déposent le bilan et les deux dernières équipes qui restent dans la PCHA rejoignent la WCHL.
